Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) has scheduled a public hearing in his Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety on his newly introduced CBD Oil bill SB10 for Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at 12:30pm in Room 411 South at the State Capitol. This is the largest hearing room at the Capitol and the location of last session’s CBD bill Senate hearing in Nov. 2015. A hearing notice should be forthcoming soon from Sen. Wanggaard’s office.

Committee members include three Republicans, Senator Wanggaard (Chairman), Senator Patrick Testin (R- Stevens Point ) (Vice-Chair) and Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville), along with two Democrats, Senator Fred Risser (D-Madison) and Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee). Taylor and Risser participated in the hearing last session. Sen. Testin defeated Sen. Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) in November. Testin had expressed support for medical cannabis during the campaign, while Lassa was a cannabigoted anti-cannabis zealot whose refusal to join with other Democrats in the 2009-2010 session in supporting a medical cannabis bill in committee led to the bill’s death in committee. Speaking of cannabigoted anti-cannabis zealots. the committees third Republican Duey Stroebel, is one of the senators Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald blamed along with Leah Vukmir and former Senator Mary Lazich for the killing of last session’s CBD bill in a procedural move in the last moments of the 2015-2016 session.

In other SB10 news, Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) has been added as a coauthor of SB10.
