On Aug. 21, the Fond du Lac County board was one of 7 counties voting on cannabis advisory referendums, but unlike the six others, rejected approving a referendum, instead voting to refer it to the Public Safety committee on a 15-8 vote on a motion by District 23 Sup. Martin Ryan. The move came during a contentious meeting that saw sheriff’s deputies removing at least one person from the chambers.

On Tuesday Sept. 4, the board’s Public Safety committee voted 3-2 to forward the advisory referendum, on the legalization and regulation of the adult use of cannabis, to the full board for a vote. If the board approves, the referendum will appear on 2019 Spring election ballots in the county as the deadline for placement on the Nov. 6 general election ballot was Aug. 28.

The full Fond du Lac county board will debate the advisory referendum at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 at 6:00pm at the City-County Government Center, Legislative Chambers 160 S. Macy Street Fond du Lac, Wisconsin 54935.
