BREAKING NEWS UPDATE as of 8:57:41 AM 08/03/2018: The Forest County Board's Safety and Justice committee is meeting Monday, Aug 6 at 4:30 pm and will be discussing a medical cannabis advisory referendum.http://www.co.forest.wi.gov/meetings_doc.asp?thismeeting=35309 The committee meets in the County Board Room at the Forest County courthouse located at 200 E Madison St. Crandon, Wisconsin 54520. The public is urged to attend and support this proposal. This has now been added to the map.
Below is an update on the latest developments and upcoming government meetings regarding Wisconsin cannabis advisory referendums for the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
We begin with good news out of Langlade County where the county board's Public Safety committee and the County Board of Health held a combined meeting on Wednesday, August 1 on the proposed advisory referendum resolution. The resolution passed unanimously with two members abstaining.
The proposal next heads to the full county board at 9am on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in the County Board Room in the lower level of the Safety Building at 840 Clermont Street in Antigo.
The proposed Langlade County question is "Should the State of Wisconsin allow individuals with debilitating medical conditions to use and safely access marijuana for medical purposes, if those individuals have a written recommendation from a licensed Wisconsin physician?"
In the city of Racine, a proposal by District 3 alder John Tate II for a city cannabis advisory referendum was heard by the city's Public Works and Services Committee on July 31. After discussion, the committee decided to revise Tate's original proposed question into three parts.
The original wording Tate II proposed would have asked voters: "Do you support cannabis being legalized for adult and medicinal use, taxed and regulated like alcohol, with the proceeds from the taxes used to fund public education, health care and infrastructure in Wisconsin?"
The revised wording will ask if voters support:
· Cannabis legalization for medicinal use.
· Cannabis legalization for recreational use, taxed and regulated like alcohol.
· Proceeds from cannabis taxes being used to fund public education, health care and infrastructure.
The full City Council meets Monday, August 6 at 7pm in Room 205, City Hall, 730 Washington Ave to decide whether or not to approve the referendum for city ballots on Nov. 6.
18 counties as of Aug. 3, 2018. The 18th county, Forest County, will be considering a medical cannabis referendum.
Also on Monday August 6, the Portage County Board's Health & Human Services Committee will meet at 2:30pm at the Portage County Annex, Conference Room #5 to hold a discussion about placing a medical cannabis advisory referendum on this November's ballot. On Tuesday, August 7 at 6pm, the Racine County Board's Government Services committee will be hearing a proposal by County Supervisors Fabi Maldonado and Nick Demske to place advisory referendums on medical cannabis and adult use cannabis on Nov. 6 county ballots. If approved by the committee, the proposal will be voted on by the full board on Aug. 28, the final day to qualify for the November ballot. Supporters are needed to get the proposed referendum to the full board. The committee meets at 7pm Aug. 7 at 14200 Washington Ave, Sturtevant, WI 53177.
Also set for Tuesday, August 7 is a vote on the county's referendum proposal by the full St. Croix County Board at 5pm at 1101 Carmichael Rd. in Hudson. The proposal previously was discussed by a board committee July 9, and on July 11, was heard by the St Croix County Health and Human Services Board. Full board meeting location for August 7 is the St Croix County Government Center 1101 Carmichael Rd # D208, Hudson.
Eau Claire County: The Leader Telegram reports that Eau Claire County Supervisor Gerald Wilkie is working with county attorney Keith Zehms to draft an advisory referendum on cannabis.http://www.leadertelegram.com/News/Front-Page/2018/07/11/EC-County-consi... The proposal will be heard by the Administration Committee, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, which meets starting at 2:30pm at the Eau Claire County Courthouse Room 3312 Eau Claire. https://www.co.eau-claire.wi.us/Home/Components/Calendar/Event/7957/18?b... approved by that committee, the referendum proposal would head to the County Board on Aug. 21 for a final vote.
In Outagamie County, the board's Public Safety committee passed a resolution July 10 authorizing the drafting of a cannabis advisory referendum question. A meeting scheduled for July 24 to vote on whether to approve the question and send it to the full board has now been postponed until Tuesday, August 14, 2018 That meeting is at 4pm in Room #1, 3rd Floor, 410 S Walnut St., Appleton. The full board is scheduled to meet at 7pm August 28.
The Kenosha County board will vote on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the County Administration Building, Third Floor, 1010 56th St. Kenosha. The resolution sponsor, District 10 Sup. Andy Berg, requested the delay to Aug. 21, as he will be on military duty Aug. 7, the date of the next board meeting and he wants to be present for the final vote. Also set for August 21 is the final vote by the Fond du Lac County board.
