Marathon County Board to vote July 24 on medical cannabis advisory referendum

This week will see a vote in Marathon County by the full county board on the county's proposed cannabis advisory referendum. The board will meet to vote on the referendum Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 7pm in room B150 at 500 Forest St. in Wausau.

On July 19 the board held an educational meeting on medical cannabis with nine speakers. Supporters are strongly urged to attend the July 24 meeting to help ensure this referendum makes the ballot.

The proposed question for Marathon County is:

"Should the State of Wisconsin allow individuals with debilitating medical conditions to use and safely access marijuana for medical purposes, if those individuals have a written recommendation from a licensed Wisconsin physician"

In Outagamie County, the board's Public Safety committee passed a resolution July 10 authorizing the drafting of a cannabis advisory referendum question. A meeting scheduled for July 24 to vote on whether to approve the question and send it to the full board has now been postponed until Tuesday, August 14, 2018 That meeting is at 4pm in Room #1, 3rd Floor, 410 S Walnut St., Appleton. The full board is scheduled to meet at 7pm August 14.

The Langlade County board's Executive Committee previously passed a referendum resolution July 10. On July 17, the full board referred the resolution to the Public Safety committee and the Langlade County Board of Health. The two will hold a joint meeting on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 10am in the County Board Room in the lower level of the Safety Building at 840 Clermont Street in Antigo.

The proposed Langlade County question is "Should the State of Wisconsin allow individuals with debilitating medical conditions to use and safely access marijuana for medical purposes, if those individuals have a written recommendation from a licensed Wisconsin physician?"

On Tuesday, August 7, the full St. Croix County board will vote on their cannabis advisory referendum on Tuesday, August 7 at 5pm at 1101 Carmichael Rd. in Hudson. The proposal previously was discussed by a board committee July 9, and on July 11, was heard by the St Croix County Health and Human Services Board. Full board meeting location for August 1 is the St Croix County Government Center 1101 Carmichael Rd # D208, Hudson.

Eau Claire County: The Leader Telegram reports that Eau Claire County Supervisor Gerald Wilkie is working with county attorney Keith Zehms to draft an advisory referendum on cannabis. The proposal will be heard by the Administration Committee, on Aug. 14, which meets starting at 2:30pm at the Eau Claire County Courthouse Room 3312 Eau Claire. If approved by that committee, the referendum proposal would head to the County Board on Aug. 21 for a final vote.

The Kenosha County board will vote on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the County Administration Building, Third Floor, 1010 56th St. Kenosha. The resolution sponsor, District 10 Sup. Andy Berg, requested the delay to Aug. 21, as he will be on military duty Aug. 7, the date of the next board meeting and he wants to be present for the final vote. The Board's Legislative committee previously debated the advisory referendum July 17, and voted to send it to the full board by a 4-3 margin.

The proposed question to be asked Kenosha County voters is "Should the State of Wisconsin allow individuals with debilitating medical conditions to use and safely access marijuana for medical purposes, if those individuals have a written recommendation from a licensed Wisconsin physician?"

Also set for August 21 is the final vote by the Fond du Lac County board. Kevin Booth, a board member and candidate for State Assembly announced July 13 that he had drafted an advisory referendum. The board meets at the City-County Government Center, Legislative Chambers, 160 S. Macy Street in Fond du Lac.
